System Restore is a component of Microsoft’s Windows Me, Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems that allows for the rolling back of system files, registry keys, installed programs, etc., to a previous state in the event of a failure. System Restore is a specific and systemic implementation of personal computer backup.

Here’s how to enable / disable System Restore in your Windows XP computer
- Right click on My Computer icon on your desktop and then choose Properties
- Click on the System Restore tab
- Give a Check mark on the “Turn off System Restore on all drives” option if you want to enable System Restore and uncheck it if you want to disable it.
- Don’t forget to click the OK button
